Agriculture in Zimbabwe

The Ministry of Agriculture in Zimbabwe has been a key player to the success and growth that Africa's largest economy experienced. 18% (or $1 trillion) accounted for by agriculture as it provides food security, income generation opportunities among many others things like providing an avenue towards climate change resilience strategies or economic empowerment programs through extension services provided at local levels such us improved crop varieties which empower people living on low incomes with better yields than before so they can produce more even when faced financial constraints.

Zimbabwe's arable land surface is small when compared to major food producers in Africa, but it was rather well performing from 1961-2001 (up until 10% of African maize production). There are five natural regions that make up the agriculture of Zimbabwe - three for producing crops and two used primarily as grazing lands. Most farmers grow their staple foods on smaller communal farms while larger commercial or export oriented farming provides much needed foreign currencies into a country with high rates at imports; this makes them vital players within an economy facing severe constraints suchs drought .

Zimbabweans face different challenges in their agricultural activities and these include the lack of resources to buy inputs and equipment, poor rains in some areas which can lead farmers into bankruptcy if they do not have access roads that transport produce from far away farms or an efficient transportation network. The government must work with local entities so as at least mitigate this problem by providing seeds for planting purposes but also offering financial incentives like loans at low interest rates - something many people living under such circumstances may prefer over charity!

Zimbabwe's tobacco sector is the largest grower of African cigarettes in Africa and 5th worldwide. It produces an estimated 1 billion worth a year, or half what they consume themselves annually! The black market value has been reported at $1-2 billion dollars due to China being their main export destination with 54% share going there last report as well. The majority (93%)...was seized by government authorities following 2000 land reforms which were mainly focused around whites owning commercial farms; 10 years later these properties have mostly reverted back into large scale operations.

The Zimbabwean government has been trying to revitalize potato production in order for the country's agriculture sector, which accounts for about 10% of GDP and employs 50 percent of workers according to 2007 estimates by HCA countries. A lack knowledge on how cultivate these crops as well as rising costs have contributed heavily towards declining levels over time; however there is some hope that this may change with recent initiatives put forth by Zim Bunker Ltd., backed up with technical assistance from France’s Agence Nationale de la Recherche sur les Problemes Agricoles (ANR). A study conducted last year found most farmers lacked training when cultivating potatoes—a fact attributed largely due their scarcity prioritizes other produce such us corn during times where maize.

The potato is a staple of the Zimbabwean diet, but their preference for potatoes typically occurs in urban areas with higher incomes. The average household income tends to be highest where people reside and those living on less than $2 per day are unable to afford this expensive tuber. According an unpublished report from 1986 by FAO (Food Agriculture Organization) about 22k tonnes were used for human consumption; 88% went towards just over 2kgs per person according these estimates!
