Ribes is a genus of berries with edible currants and ornamental plants

There are three different types: blackcurrant, red or white depending on the cultivar; it also includes European gooseberries (Ribes uva-crispa) among its members that produce jams in addition to their fruit for consumption as well .

Currants are a type of shrub that belongs to the gooseberry family. They're found all over world, and we use them for their juicy berries- which happen to be named currant! The plant naturally occurs in more than 100 species across both North America and Western South America-- though they mostly hail from temperate regions like those on either side our own country's borders (i.e., Nothern Hemisphere). Curants have become quite popular here as well; you can find these plump beauties thriving along many mountain ranges within Rocky Mountain states such as Colorado or Montana where it rains often during summer months due partly thanks this area’s altitude.

Native Americans were cultivating black currants by 1600, and they later spread to England where it became one of the country's most popular fruits. The red-color variety was also cultivated in America before being covered up again--this time for good! Currant bushes produce two types: red or black - each with their own distinct taste (and nutritional value). They're not just tasty; these little berries contain lotsa vitamins including C & iron phosphorus calcium...

Russia is the largest producer of currants, annually producing up to 398000 tonnes. The second-largest production takes place in Poland and Ukraine with almost 6625860 total tons produced worldwide each year! Japan comes next at 90000 metric tones while Slovenia produces just 5000 metric ton per annum on its own--making them amongst some rare exceptions that cannot compare when compared globally across countries who produce these fruits most often ( Russia , China & Iran ).
